So far I have put about 35 hours in and no end in sight. it's just amazingly full of content. Above all it's fun, the combat variations with different combo's of equipment is endless. I want to finish every Side mission, every task, but thats impossible there are so many!
phantom_leo said:This may or may not interest some of you --BUT-- did you know R. A. Salvatore wrote the Novels in the "Icewind Dale" and "Neverwinter" Forgotten Realms series? It seems as if this guy was responsible for the birth of what most Western RPGs are based on! Reviewers have the nerve to call his writing in this game "cliche" when he was the one responsible for starting it all! All of his writing in this game is original --FOR-- this game --BUT-- it's all going to seem intimately famliar to anyone with even a passing fancy in Fantasy books and/or games!
This reminds me of the hilarious quote "I really like Shakespear except all those cliches"
Leo you have me sold. I've had the game for about a week or so and I will make it the game I play after I'm done with Sly and Assassin's Creed.
I'm a bit weird about RPGs though so I have a couple of reservations but I will just try it and see I guess. One thing is time. Still not sure I have the time available to fully appreciate a sprawling RPG such as this. The other is ... not knowing secrets and things which may prevent me from fully appreciating the game (or even finishing it - I'm looking at you FFIV and Fire Emblem). I don't read faqs, hell I don't even read manuals (I just look at the pictures), and I feel the game should tell me - or allow me to find out without having to spend infitnite hours on hapless, repetitive tasks etc
Do you mean he wrote the stories for the games or spin-off novels?
(chronologically subsequent to The Dark Elf trilogy)
- The Crystal Shard [1988]
- Streams of Silver [1989]
- The Halfling's Gem [1990]

One thing you need to do with games like this (this is the lesson I am learning from Skyrim) is realize YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING, so don't even try! If you are curious about something, follow that lead, but that doesn't mean you need to uncover every last secret the game has in it. It actually makes it better for a second playthru, IF you are so inclined. You WILL have new stuff to discover the second time around. It's also probably wise to do this in Amalur because it is VERY possible to get VERY over-leveled. If you do EVERYTHING, the game will become easy and boring. Follow the main storyline quests, of course, Finish one House's line of Quests, do NPC's Side-Quests... but don't try to do EVERYTHING... I would even suggest starting the game on HARD, or at least switching to hard after it starts to get a little easy, but that's entirely a matter of taste. As for the rest of your worries, DON'T WORRY! The game does an excellent job of teaching you all if its own nuances. It's pretty easy to decipher it all.

Ah, so it's based on the games. (Or rather set in the same world or sometihng.) Interesting.
I started over with this game a few days ago. I don't know what my problem was teh first time I tried it, but man, this is a solid game.
Kind of like Dark Alliance but with a touch of Fable and Mass Effect. It's wonderful.
I know I am going to get into trouble the deeper I go into the game because I am ignoring many of the more complicated systems in the game, but for now I am having a blast.
Nice menus too. Some really intelligent or experienced people must have been behind them.
It requires more attention than I have right now. Plus Mrs. Aspro hi-jacked it.
It is really fun Leo, I'm addicted to it. So much to see and do, overall it is relatively easy but so much fun.
